Last week, I saw that the Oscars were all over the media as usual, and hit on the idea that we don't have such a wide variety of award categories in the field of literature. Well, in the case of the National Book Awards, for example, there are genre categories for nominees such as fiction, non-fiction, poetry, translated literature and young adult literature. But what I imagined was something totally different from this existing system of the literary awards. If there was not only an award category for the best book, but also for best protagonist, supporting character, narrative, dialogue, poetry, novelization, book design, editor and so on, it would be so exciting that we could read and admire literary works more actively from a multidimensional perspective. Perhaps this idea has been partly realized in the field of animation or manga with popularity rankings of favorite characters, and I think it will be a definite incentive for writers to elaborately design their literary worlds. Searching on the internet now, I found the same idea presented by Literary Hub's article, "If They Gave Oscars to Books, Our 2019 Nominees." If you do "Book Oscars" for the world of letters in Japan by using it as a reference, it might be fun!
